A stewardess costume isn't complete without the hat -- it transforms a button down dress into a uniform. Although most modern flight attendants don't wear hats anymore, traditionally they have worn small pillbox-type hats. The style varies,but a simple teardrop-shaped hat both conveys the classic look and is easy to make even if you've never made hat before. Look for plastic wings at toy stores, craft stores or online -- or use the wings sometimes given to children by real airlines.
Step 1
Cut a strip of felt 3-inches wide and 10-inches long. Fold it into a teardrop shape with the ends touching and place it on your head. Adjust it to the size you want and hold the ends together.

Apply glue to one end of the felt and press it with the other end to secure the teardrop shape. Alternatively, you can make a cylinder-shaped pillbox. Trim the end of the felt as necessary. Allow the glue to dry.
Step 3
Cut a 1/2-inch strip in a coordinating color and glue it along the top edge of the hat.
Step 4
Cut a piece of felt a little bit larger and similar in size to the opening in the middle of the hat. Turn the hat upside-down. Glue around the edges of the felt piece and push it into the form to make the top of the hat. Allow the glue to dry.
Step 5
Pin the wings to the side of the hat. To wear the hat, position it on top of your hair slightly to one side and hold in place with hair pins.
Tip
Choose felt colors that match your dress.
Warning
Don't put the hat on your head until the glue is completely dry.
