Make wrapped string bracelets with many different colored sections.

Make a hippie-style friendship bracelet with sections of bright colors, also known as the wrap bracelet. Use just a few different colors for a color scheme, or many different colors for a very colorful piece of jewelry. These bracelets are made with embroidery floss like the other kinds of macramé friendship bracelets. The technique is simple but requires more string than many of the other styles of string bracelets. Make these colorful hippie-style bracelets for you and your friends.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut seven pieces of colorful string to 60-inches long and line up the ends in a group. Fold the whole group of strings in half and tie an overhand knot about 1 inch from the fold to keep the group together. You now have 14 strings at 30 inches long.

    • 2

Clip the loop at the end in a clip board to hold it in place. Separate one string from the group by placing it off to the side; this is the first string you will use to wrap the others. Take two more strings and place them off to the other side; these are your crossing strings, which will cross over the wrapped string. Pull the rest of the strings straight down and clip them to the bottom of the clip board with a binder clip.

    • 3

Wrap the wrapping string once around the group of strings, minus the crossing strings, and overlap it on itself to make an unfinished knot. Slide this unfinished knot all the way up so it stops against the knot at the top. Start wrapping the wrapping string around the other strings as far as you would like it to go. Make an unfinished knot every inch to keep the wrap from unraveling.

    • 4

Bring the two crossing strings over the wrapped section to make an "X" and continue down until you get the bottom of the wrapped section.

    • 5

Hold the crossing strings in place with your fingers at the end of the wrapped section and release the binder clip to choose two more strings to use as the crossing strings. Choose another string to use as the wrapping string and make an unfinished knot and replace the binder clip to hold the group of strings still. Repeat the process until you have about 7 inches of wrapping and crossed string.

Remove the binder clip and tie an overhand knot to secure the end of the bracelet. Trim the extra string past the knot. Put the bracelet on your wrist and slip the knot through the loop to hold it on your wrist.
