The cost of professional design and printing is outrageous. Creating a custom restaurant menu doesn't have to break your budget. Use your own creativity and, with a small amount of work, you will have your own restaurant menu by making it at home. Instructions

    • 1

Gather all the menu selections, prices, pictures of dishes and other items you want to include in your new menu. Having all the information you need at your fingertips will make the task less frustrating and quicker.

    • 2

Open the word processing program that came with your computer. Depending on the capabilities of the program, you can generate a layout that pleases you. Consider the elements of the menu that are available to customize. Select the color of the text, font style and justification of the text that fits the picture you have in your mind of what you are going to create. Each program has different methods of achieving these changes, but most of these changes are available on the toolbar.

    • 3

Separate your menu into the common groupings like Appetizers, Soups, Salads, Main Courses and Desserts. An alternate method of listing your main courses is to list them by the type of meat, such as Beef, Chicken, Pork and Seafood.

    • 4

Enter each menu item in the appropriate section. Include a short description of the dish to aid your customers in their selections. Design your menu to be as customer-friendly as possible.

    • 5

Include pictures or graphics with the design of the menu to add flair and to make it more visually appealing. Select graphics that correspond to the type of food you serve.

    • 6

Choose paper from a stationery store that is not just white. Select a paper that is aesthetically pleasing and which includes a design that will not detract from the content of your menu.

    • 7

Use the preview option on your printing menu to view the final menu. Make any changes that you desire.

    • 8

Print a test copy of the menu on plain paper to check your wording, placement and spelling. Have another person check over the layout and look. The menu is one of the first impressions your restaurant makes on a customer, so make the best impression on them that you possibly can.

    • 9

Load your stationery in the printer and print a copy of the new menu. Make any final adjustments to the menu that you may have missed. Once the menu is just the way you desire, print your new menus.
