How to Do an Easy Updo
You may wish to put up medium or long hair at times. A casual updo gets hair off your neck, which is comfortable on hot days. Spending a bit more time on your hairstyle makes it appropriate for dinner out or a business function. Start with clean, dry hair to avoid breakage and flyaway hair that may occur if your hair is damp when put up.

Instructions

French twist
-
1
Gather your hair with your hands in a low ponytail. Hold it in place; do not use an elastic holder to contain your hair.
-
2
Twist the ponytail with both hands while you hold it away from your head. As you twist, guide it toward the top of your head.
-
3
Continue twisting your hair while holding it against the back of your head. When you get to the end of your hair, tuck under the ends and use bobby pins to hold them in place.
-
4
Spritz your hands with hairspray and run them over the sides of your hair to smooth it flat. Spray the French twist with hairspray for maximum hold.
Chignon
-
1
Gather your hair in a low ponytail and hold it in place with a thin elastic holder that matches or blends in with your hair.
-
2
Grasp the middle of the ponytail and begin twisting it until it starts to wrap around itself. Guide it around the elastic until you get to the end of your ponytail.
-
3
Tuck in the ends and pin in place. Hide the pins between the chignon and your head so they are not visible.
-
4
Loosen the hair on the crown of your head if desired to add volume. Spray all over with hairspray and smooth down any loose hairs.

Tips & Warnings
If your hair is thin or shorter than shoulder length, you can use a chignon pillow to add volume to your chignon. Buy one from a beauty supply store that is close to your hair color.
