DIY Rope Ladder

DIY Rope Ladder thumbnail
Nylon is a synthetic material that makes for strong yet flexible and light rope.

A rope ladder can be constructed without having to cut, tie or knot the rope. In order to make the rope ladder, you will need six feet of rope for each foot of the ladder. One-half-inch nylon rope offers the best compromise between weight and strength.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2-inch nylon rope

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the rope in half and start creating your ladder from the bend.

    • 2

Measure 12 inches from the bend on the right-hand string and fold the rope into an S-shaped bend.

    • 3

Take the end of the left string and pass it through the upper bend of the S from the front. Pass the string under the S and loop the string four times around the S. Pass the string through the lower bend of the S on the way down. Tighten the cord by pulling on the right string.

    • 4

Repeat these steps until the ladder is done. Loop the rope around a solid anchor point using the bend formed when you folded the cord the first time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the cord is secure before climbing it.

  • Make sure the distance between steps is 12 inches. Longer distances will make your rope difficult to climb.
