How to Change the Time Zone in Windows 7

Your computer has an automatic time-calibration program that corrects its clock depending upon your time zone. However, if you move to another time zone, this can lead to your computer having the wrong time. By taking a few easy steps you can correct this time setting so that the computer automatically changes the time to the correct one. This will even automatically perform the daylight saving correction every year so that you do not have to.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your computer as the administrator. Only an administrator can make this setting change, as the clock is actually used by a myriad of other programs for their own purposes, and changing the time can have drastic effects on other programs.

    • 2

Right-click on the clock in the lower right of your desktop and select "Adjust time/date" from the pop-up menu. This brings up a window in the center of your desktop.

Click on the "Date and Time" tab at the top left of the window. Click on the "Change time zone" button in the lower half of the window. This brings up a scroll-down menu listing all the time zones. Select the time zone that you want to use and then click on the "Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time" box to enable automatic daylight saving adjustment. Click "OK" and then "OK" again.

Restart your computer to make sure that the time change propagates throughout the computer and to all the other programs that use the time as part of their operations.
