1
Cut a hole in the paper plate large enough to fit the child's head. This will serve as the brim of the Mad Hatter hat.
-
2
Roll construction paper or poster board into a tube that fits around the opening in the paper plate. Tape securely to keep the tube from unrolling. If you are using construction paper, you may have to glue or tape two sheets together. Make the hat as tall as you like. Tape the tube to the paper plate brim to finish constructing the hat.

Encourage guests to glue or tape embellishments to their hats. Provide feathers, beads, crystals and buttons for decorating. Guests can also color their hats with markers. To make a hat band, cut a strip of construction paper long enough to encircle the bottom of the tube part of the hat. You may have to tape two strips together. Secure the band around the hat with tape.
