How to Make Your Own Wood Candle Molds
Candle making was once a necessary skill for living prior to the use of electricity. Many people now enjoy candle making as a hobby. You can make candle molds from a wide variety of materials. You can make wooden molds in a home workshop that are durable and simple.
Things You'll Need
- Two 2-by-4-by-8-inch mahogany boards
- Steel ruler
- C-clamps
- 1 1/2-inch forstner bit
- Drill press
- 6-inch piano hinge with screws
- Screwdriver
- Latch set with screws

Place the two mahogany boards together so that the sides and ends are flush. Clamp the boards together with C-clamps.

Place the boards so that the end is facing up. Draw lines from corner to corner to locate the center of the clamped boards.

Drill a 1 1/2-inch hole 6 inches deep into the clamped boards at the center mark with a drill press.

Remove the clamps. You will have half drilled slot on the inside of each board.

Place the boards back together with the insides facing the center. Align a piano hinge in the center of the mold assembly on one long edge of the board.

Screw the piano hinge in place using the provided screws.

Align a latch set on the opposite edge of the hinge in the center of the mold assembly. Screw the latch in place with the provided screws.

Tips & Warnings
Make different molds with larger and smaller diameter holes for a variety of candle sizes.
Wear eye protection when woodworking.
