How to Make Pom Poms Out of Garbage Bags
Pom poms are a necessary accessory for any cheerleader. In competitions, at big games or just for fun, cheerleaders and pom poms go together. Pom poms come in a wide range of colors and can be purchased at sporting good stores or made at home. If you choose to make your own pom poms, garbage bags are a good material to use. 1
Choose a color for your pom poms. Garbage bags are fairly limited as far as color range goes, but there are a few different choices. Consider using multiple colors for a more appealing visual effect.
-
2
Arrange approximately 10 garbage bags on top of each other on top of a table or other hard surface. The corners of all the bags should be lined up with one another.
-
-
3
Cut the bags in half width-wise, then separate into two piles.
-
4
Cut vertical strips in the garbage bags. Make the strips about 1 to 2 inches wide and leave approximately 3 to 4 inches at the top to form the handle.
-
5
Fold the garbage bags in half length-wise. Roll the top part of the bags into a tube or cylinder as tightly as you can. This will be your handle.
-
6
Insert a posicle stick or two into the opening of your handle for stability, then wrap duct tape around to form the handle. Repeat with the other pom poms.
-
7
Rub some of the strips vigorously between your hands. The friction you create will make the pom poms seem fuller.
