How to Add a Remote to a Genie Garage Door Opener
Genie garage door openers use Intellicode technology. Intellicode technology automatically changes the access code within the system every time you press the remote control button. This adds to the security of your garage door opener. The Genie opener comes with two remotes. You can add a remote to a Genie garage door opener yourself. Purchase a Genie Intellicode remote and program the remote to the opener. Genie remote controls are available at some home improvement centers. Does this Spark an idea?

Set up a stepladder under the motor of the Genie garage door opener so that you can reach the back of the motor.

Locate the Learn programming button on the Genie opener. The button is next to the force and limit adjustment screws either on the bottom of the opener or on the back of the opener. There is a small LED light next to the Learn button.

Press and release the programming button once with your index finger. The LED light blinks to indicate that the opener is ready to program the new remote.

Push the remote control button once within 30 seconds. The LED light remains lit without blinking. Press the remote control button once more to turn off the LED light. The remote is now programmed.

Test the remote control to ensure the programming is set. Press the remote control button and the garage door opener will operate.

You can program up to seven different remote controls for the Genie opener.
