How to Build a Cart
A cart is a hand-pushed vehicle that is used to carry objects around. Similar to a shopping cart, wagon, or a wheelbarrow, a cart is a simple tool. Building your own cart can be done with wood or sheet metal and is an excellent do-it-yourself project for a novice crafter. Whether you are making one for fun, or to actually use around the house, building a cart will not be a waste of time.
Things You'll Need
- Four 2-foot by 2-foot plywood boards
- Staple gun
- Wood glue
- Six 2-foot by 1-inch plywood boards
- Drill
- Axle rod
- Two hand cart wheels

Cut four pieces of plywood board to size. The size will vary depending on the use you'll have for the cart, but 2-feet by 2-feet squares will make a useful cart.

Some carts look like uncovered wagons. Attach the plywood boards to each other using a staple gun and wood glue in order to build a box that is missing a top and a side piece.

Cut two plywood boards so that they are 2-feet long by 1-inch wide and attach them to each other at a 90 degree angle from the 2-foot edge using the staple gun and wood glue again. Repeat this step three more times so that you have a total of four of these structures.

Attach two of the 90 degree angle plywood structures to each other so that they make a rectangular, box shape. This will be the handle of your cart.

Attach one of the 90 degree angle plywood structures to one of the corners of the box you built and repeat this step with the final 90 degree angle plywood structure on the opposite corner.

Attach the handle to the 90 degree angle plywood structures on the end opposite the box.

Drill a hole big enough to fit an axle rod on the back side of the box. The front side of the box is the end that leads to the handle. Drill the hole at both sides of the box and insert the axle rod.

Carts can also have flat beds. Attach two wheels, like the kind used on hand carts, to both sides of the axle rod.
