How to Clean Pyroceram & Vycor Glass Inserts
Pyroceram and Vycor glass are types of glass made by Corning Inc. A brand of lab glassware, Pyroceram is found in beakers, petri dishes and hot plates. Vycor glass can be inserted into windows. Pyroceram glass needs to be cleaned after each use with a specific cleaning method to sanitize the lab glass. Vycor glass needs to be cleaned at least once a week if used in bathrooms. If the glass is used anywhere else, you can clean it every other week or as the glass gets dirty. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Glass cleaner
- Soft paper towels
- 1 tbsp. mild liquid detergent
- Distilled water
- Clean, lint-free towels
Instructions

Cleaning Vycor Glass

Spray the glass with the glass cleaner. The glass does not need to be fully covered in glass cleaner, but just make sure there is enough to cover the whole surface when it is spread around.

Fold two soft paper towels in quarters.

Rub the glass cleaner around the glass with the paper towels.

Turn the paper towels to where there is a dry surface to use.

Starting at the top corner, rub the paper towel down the length of the glass insert and back up again.

Continue until the entire glass is clean and streak-free. Repeat on the other side.
Cleaning Pyroceram

Mix 1 tbsp. of mild liquid dish detergent in with 1 gallon of warm water in a sink.

Soak the Pyroceram glassware in the solution for 10 to 15 minutes.

Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Rinse again in distilled water.

Air-dry the glass on clean, lint-free towels.
