Instructions

    • 1

Draw a line 1/2 inch in from both the neck hem and the bottom hem of the shirt. Cut off the fabric using the line to guide you.

    • 2

Draw a line from the bottom of the right or left armhole to the opposite shoulder. Cut off the fabric using the line to guide you.

    • 3

Pin the hems to clean up the trimming and sew the top hem using the pinned edge as your guide. Pull on the thread tightly to create shirring (shirring is the effect that creates decorative rows or creases of cloth).

    • 4

Cut the hem of the sleeve that was cut off to create a strap for the sleeveless side of the shirt.

    • 5

Try the shirt on, and pin the strap to the sleeveless side to measure where to attach the strap.

    • 6

Sew the strap on the sleeveless side based on where it is pinned.

Tips & Warnings

  • Glue or sew unused fabric around a bottle cap and sew the bottle cap onto the shirt strap to create a fashionable button look.

  • Cut thin strips out of unused fabric and attach to the shirt strap to create a flowing fabric look.

  • If you just want to cut off the sleeves of a shirt, simply take a pair of scissors and cut around the armholes. If you want a cleaner look, cut off the excess strings, then prepare the hem around the armholes with sewing pins, and sew the outline to clean it up.
