How to Make an Embroidery Running Stitch

A running stitch produces a straight line of stitches as an outline or the foundation for a more complex stitch. It's the easiest embroidery stitch to master.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Visualize a line with points 3-2-1 and an equal distance between each point.

  2. Step 2

    Bring the thread up to the right side of the fabric at point 1.

  3. Step 3

    Insert the needle at point 2.

  4. Step 4

    Bring the needle up at point 3.

  5. Step 5

    Continue repeating the sequence.

  6. Step 6

    Push the tip of the needle in and out of the fabric several times before pulling the thread through in order to complete the work faster.

on 3/6/2006 To give a good look and strengthen the stitch, go back (either with the same thread or a different one) and fill the gaps created by the stitching with a new running stitch. This leaves a professional look and strong binding.
