How to Bead Crocheted Jewelry
When working with beads in crochet, you can make a variety of jewelry items. From tiny pendants using seed beads to larger necklaces using glass beads of any shape and size, crocheting and beads seem to go hand in hand. Learning to crochet with beads is a simple matter of advanced preparation.

1
Determine how many beads you will need for your project. Often, if you work from a pattern, it will tell you how many beads the pattern calls for. If you are working on your own design, however, you will need to estimate the number of beads you will need for the project. If you plan to use more than one type of bead, you will have to know how many of each type and in what order you will use them. If you aren't absolutely sure, it's best to over-estimate.

2
String your beads onto the yarn before you begin to crochet with it. Thread your yarn through an embroidery needle (for larger beads) or a beading needle (for smaller beads) and push the beads down toward the skein. Thread every bead in advance and let them sit on the yarn; pull extra working yarn through the beads to prepare to crochet.

Crochet your jewelry. When it comes time to add a bead, insert your hook into the next stitch and draw up a loop. Slide the bead up the yarn so it is between the loop on your stitch and the working yarn. Pull the working yarn over the hook and draw through the loops. This will hold the bead in place, sandwiched inside the stitch.

Mix in regular stitches with beaded stitches as you continue to crochet your jewelry.

Tips & Warnings
This type of project works with wire as well as yarn; you still follow all the steps the same way, but you can usually thread the beads directly onto the wire without the assistance of a needle.
