Instructions For a Cup Holder Made Out of Plastic Canvas
You can buy foam or fabric cup holders just about anywhere, but why not make your own and have the fun of decorating it with your own designs and colors? Plastic canvas makes the project simple and fun, and you can design your holder in any size you choose. The example shown will make a 3-3/4 inch wide by 6 inch high holder, but to fit your favorite cup, just measure across top or bottom (whichever is widest) for the circle diameter; measure around the cup at widest point to get length of the strip; and height of cup to get the width of the strip.

1
Measure a strip of plastic canvas sheet 6 inches high by 11 3/4 inches long for the cylindrical portion of the cup holder, and cut out with scissors.
-
2
Cut a circle of plastic canvas 3 3/4 inches in diameter. (Use a compass to draw the circle on graph paper first; cut out and use as a pattern for the plastic canvas.)

3
Cut two pieces of ribbon or yarn---one piece about 12 inches long, the other piece about 16 inches long.
-
4
Form the 6 inch by 11-3/4 inch strip of plastic canvas into a cylinder. Use a large needle, threaded with the shorter piece of ribbon or yarn, to stitch the ends of plastic canvas cylinder together where they meet; tie off each end. Tips & Warnings
Patterns for projects need not be limited to those found online or in craft stores---use natural objects like leaves, or cutouts from colorful magazines as inspiration.
Make several cup holders in holiday patterns---snowmen, holly, snowflakes, reindeer, etc---to adorn the glassware at your Christmas dinner table. Add, stitched plastic canvas seasonal cutouts of those or the symbols of other holidays---turkeys, pumpkins and so on---to add more dimension.
Make bright cheerful holders; add guest names to each, and give away as favors at children's birthday parties.
