To make holiday decorations look like they were kissed by a sugar plum fairy, you may want to give a sugared or crystalline look to seasonal faux fruit centerpieces you already own or have fun creating brand new ones from supplies you have purchased at the craft store. A "sugared" look is easy to obtain by using specific products that are called sugar glitters. Sugar glitters are chunkier than the fine glitters most are used to working with but they are just as easy to use. These glitters come in a variety of colors and can be used on a variety of products.
Things You'll Need
- Clear-drying glue
- Sponge paintbrush
- Sugar glitter
- Clean towel
Wash and thoroughly dry your faux fruit. Dust, soap or water may prevent the glue from sticking to the faux fruit and bonding with the glitter.
Determine what material your faux fruit is made of--likely it will be plastic--and purchase a clear-drying glue that is intended for use with that material. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for applying the glue. Hold the fruit in one hand and use a small, sponge paintbrush to apply the glue to the exposed areas of the faux fruit.
Sprinkle an even coat of sugar glitter over the glue. Place the unglittered side of the fruit on the clean towel and allow it to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. Repeat the process on the bare portions of fruit until it is completely covered.
