How to Get Rid of Iron Stains of Clothes

Save

While any stains that find their way to your clothing are irritating, iron stains seem twice as bad. The bright red color clashes with most apparel making it more than noticeable. Though rust stains require a different approach than other stains when it comes to getting rid of them, if you know what you're doing they aren't any more difficult to remove than other stains.

Things You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Table salt
  • Clean cloth
  • Lay the garment on a flat surface with the iron stain facing up.

  • Saturate the area with white vinegar.

  • Sprinkle table salt all over the stain.

  • Rub the salt into the stain with a clean cloth.

  • Set the garment outside in the sunshine to help draw the stain out.

  • Allow the garment to sit outside for 2 to 3 hours.

  • Launder the garment as usual.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the weather isn't cooperating, leave the garment inside to soak. This may take a little longer.
  • Do not place the garment in the dryer until the stain is gone as the heat may set the stain in.
