Painting Ideas for Kids Bedrooms
Bedrooms are very personalized rooms. In a house, the bedrooms of children may not reflect the overall decorative scheme due to this personalization. There are many ways to personalize a bedroom for children through using paint. Drawing on walls is an activity that is generally frowned upon, but something children enjoy doing. Use chalkboard paint in an area of a child's room in order to allow her to draw on the wall with chalk in a specified area. Determine the location for the chalkboard wall; painting one of the four walls, covering it completely, creates a large chalkboard and a focal point to the room, while masking and painting a three- to four-foot border around the base of the room allows children to easily access the area for drawing.

Determine the color of paint you would like to use. Chalkboard paint comes in a variety of colors, including the traditional black and green chalkboard colors. A black chalkboard can be a great backdrop for colored chalk, whereas a colored wall might fit into the overall color scheme of the room. Think about these aspects when selecting paint.

Paint the wall the desired background color. If you plan to paint the entire wall with chalkboard paint, skip this step.

Mask the section of the wall you would like to paint with chalkboard paint with masking tape. Be sure to firmly press the tape to the wall. Paint over the tape with the background color along the edge of the tape. This will seal any space between the tape and the wall, in order to create a crisp, clean line. Allow the paint to dry.

Paint the chalkboard paint on the wall with a paint roller. Apply as many coats as necessary to get a thick, even layer of paint. The amount of coats necessary depends on the brand: be sure to let each coat dry before applying an additional layer.

Remove the tape from the wall once all coats are applied and have dried thoroughly.

Add decorative elements, such as a stencilled motif along the border of the chalkboard with a complementary color to add interest to the room. Allow the child to have an input on the motif for their room.
