How to Get Nail Polish Out of Viscose Fabric

Laura Nations

Nail polish can accidentally end up on clothes and linens made of viscose fabric when you polish your own nails. Your hem might touch your wet nails, or you may drip on your pants. When nail polish stains viscose fabrics, you cannot just rinse it off and rubbing it will just spread the stain. Nail polish will dry quickly and adhere to the fabric fibers, making it hard to remove. You must use acetone to loosen and remove the polish.

Nail polish can be removed from clothes or linens with acetone.

Step 1

Lay out a clean white rag on a solid surface. Place the stained viscose fabric on top of the rag.

Step 2

Dip a white rag in acetone. Blot the stain with the rag.

Step 3

Rinse the stained fabric with clean water. Reapply acetone, then rinse again until no more nail polish is removed when the acetone is applied.

Step 4

Spray or rub a prewash stain remover to the stain.

Step 5

Wash the viscose fabric in a washing machine. Dry as directed by the fabric manufacturer.
