Instructions

    • 1

Place your pieces of 2-inch-by-4-inch board at the corners of one of the pieces of 3-foot-by-2-foot plywood. Attach using the wood screws. This is the bottom of the trunk.

    • 2

Place the two other pieces of 2-foot-by-3-foot plywood on either 3-foot side of the bottom of the trunk. Screw these pieces into the bottom with wood screws. This is the front and the back of the trunk.

    • 3

Place the pieces of 2-foot-by-1-foot, 10 1/2-inch pieces on the trunk bottom and in between the front and back. These are the sides of the trunk. Screw these pieces into the bottom of the trunk.

    • 4

Place the 3-inch by 3-foot piece of plywood on the top of the trunk so it is even with one of the longer edges. Screw this piece into place. This is the brace for the lid and now represents the back of your trunk.

    • 5

Place two of the hinges on the brace approximately 4 inches from either side. Place the third hinge in the center of the brace.

    • 6

Vertically center the 1-inch square pieces of wood on one side of the remaining piece of plywood. These are braces for the lid. They should be offset from the edges by 1 inch.

    • 7

Place the lid on top of the box. Attach it to the hinges on the brace.

    • 8

Place the support hinges in the interior of the trunk so they attach to either side and the square pieces attached to the hinge.

    • 9

Stain the trunk the color of your choice.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want a different look for your trunk, you can use a different wood. The process will be the same.

  • Don't forget the brace for the lid. This will add stability and help keep the lid from breaking.
