1
Look in your closet for a peasant or camisole top. A blouse works if you cut off or fold in the collar. Alternately, pin or sew a red or black scarf to the collar to hide it.
-
2
Add a bustier or vest. This slims your waist and allows you to blouse out your pirate sleeves, making the look more authentic.

3
Wear a black skirt or pair of black pants. If the skirt is long, pin it up one side. You want to be able to swashbuckle when necessary, and need to be able to move freely. Add a petticoat or two. If you wear pants, add a sash around your waist. A red, green or gold sash adds color.

Try different kinds of shoes. Shoes with an Edwardian heel add a glamorous pirate touch. Flip-flops will work as well. Boots work well if you're in a cold weather region. Delicate heel create a dressy lady pirate look. Thick heels create a less formal look.

5
Add finishing touches. Tie a sash around your head to add a touch of whimsy. Look at the party store for year-round access to pirate gear, such as hats or swords.
-
6
Wear an eye patch. You can purchase patches that have holes through which you can see.
-
7
Add pirate booty. Pearls, rubies, emeralds, gold and silver jewelry all create a timeless pirate costume. Wear the jewelry around your neck, in your hair, around your waist or on your fingers. More is better. A single hoop earring or ruby drop earring helps set the tone for your costume.

Add a makeup scar, if you prefer. Wear eyeliner, mascara and dark lipstick to highlight your swashbuckling ways.
