Step 1
Set the tone with the invitations and let guests know about the Hollywood theme. Use a black-and-white image from a classic Hollywood movie on it or design your invitation to look like a movie ticket. If you want guests to come in costume, remember to mention this on the invitation. Send invitations out early so that people have time to plan.
-
Step 2
Ask guests to dress up in their finest. While it's hard to make dressing up a requirement, it can certainly add to the festiveness of your party. Suggest that people wear evening attire and have some cheap top hats and tiaras on hand in case someone shows up without a costume.
-
Step 3
Choose food that has a Hollywood theme. Serve them the type of food that they might find at a real Oscar party. Food should be in bite-sized pieces and easy to eat. Try serving sushi, mini quiche and chocolate-covered strawberries. Alternatively, you could have a popcorn machine and serve popcorn to evoke the movie-going experience.
-
Step 4
Lay out the red carpet. Get a red carpet and put it outside in the walkway leading up to your house. If you don't have a walkway, put it in the entryway. Get creative and make your guests feel special.
-
Step 5
Play songs from classic movies. Whether you want simple background music or songs that will get people to dance, choose music that people will recognize from their favorite movies. Some of the most recognizable songs are "I've Had the Time of My Life" from "Dirty Dancing" and anything from the movie "Grease."

Step 6
Prepare gift bags for guests to take home. One of the best parts about a real Hollywood party is the gift bags full of great products. To re-create this experience, create small gift bags for your guests. They don't have to be full of brand-name goods. Small, thoughtful items, such as a picture frame or candy in a tin film canister are fun ideas.
