How to Make a Captain Underpants Costume
As you may know, Captain Underpants was inadvertently created by two fourth graders, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, when they hypnotized their principal, Benny Krupp, into believing he was a superhero. He is in many ways the polar opposite of the nasty principal Krupp, as he is kind to everyone, especially children. Captain Underpants is known for his tight white briefs and red cape with black polka dots. Making a Captain Underpants costume is easy.
Things You'll Need
- 1 yard red felt or fleece (this fabric is a little heavier, but you won't need to finish the edges to prevent fraying)
- Yard stick or tape measure
- Glue
- Black marker
- White briefs
- White swimming cap
- Beige or light brown marker
- Beige tights or leggings
- Beige long-sleeved turtleneck shirt
- Small pillow to use as stomach stuffing
- Belt

1
Capture two measurements: (A) the back of the neck to the middle of the wearer's bottom, and (B) mid-shoulder to mid-shoulder. Cut the fabric so that it is a rectangle, A inches by B inches. To make the tie, cut a long piece of fabric that is one inch wide and two inches x A wide.

2
Glue the tie to the top of the rectangle (one of the B sides). Make sure you place the midpoint of the tie in the middle of the top so that a length of it comes off each side. Allow the glue to dry. Draw polka dots all over the cape with the black marker.

Put on the costume. Place the pillow on your stomach and hold it in place with the belt. Put on the tights and turtleneck over the pillow. Put on the white briefs over the tights, tucking the shirt into the waistband. Put on the swimming cap. Tie the cape around your shoulders.

Tips & Warnings
To simplify this costume, you can buy a red cape. Also, you can eliminate the pillow, tights and turtleneck; however, it won't be quite as realistic without them.
