Instructions

    • 1

Purchase Native American beads and bead spacers for your choker along with sinew string and a clasp. You can also purchase other accessories that you might like to add to the choker, such as feather pendants. You can purchase these items from a Native American craft supply store or through online websites, such as CrazyCrow.Com, SiouxTrading.Com, and SpiritConnectionStore.Com.

Create a bead pattern for your choker by arranging the beads and bead spacers on a flat surface. Although the spacers will be a part of the design, they are there to create equal spacing between your rows that will be on the choker. Your patterns should be created in rows of four. If you desire to add more or less rows, you can do so. However, the average amount of rows on many Indian chokers is four.

    • 3

Cut your first sinew string to the length you desire. In order to determine length, you can place the string around your neck to determine how tight you want the choker to be. Add two inches to your length. Be sure to leave enough length so that the choker does not restrict your air supply. After you have cut the first sinew string, use that string as a guide to cut three more strings of the same length.

    • 4

Tie all four of your sinew strings together by creating a secure knot on one end of the strings.

    • 5

Thread your first string of Indian beads by placing the beads onto the sinew string until you have reached the first spacer. Do not add the spacer yet. Thread your remaining three rows of string until you reach the first spacer. Now you can place your first spacer onto all four of the strings. After placing your first spacer, continue this pattern until you have finished threading your beads according to the pattern in Step 2. After finishing your pattern, tie a secure knot at the other loose end of the beads.

Cut two small 1 inch pieces of leather material. You can cut the pieces of leather in the shape of an oval, circle, square or rectangle, depending on your taste.

    • 7

Punch a small hole on the end of each piece of leather. Insert one end of the sinew strands into the hole that was made on the outside of one of the pieces of leather. Tie a secure knot so that the knot appears on the inside of the leather to keep the knot from view. Proceed by following the same step for the other end of string. Cut off the loose ends of the knot.

Attach your choker clasp to the both ends of your Indian choker so that it can be securely fastened around your neck.
