According to the American Heritage Dictionary, a pedigree is a line of ancestors or your family tree that can be used to chart and analyze certain inheritance traits in humans, show dogs and racehorses. Thanks to the Internet, you can quickly create HTML pedigrees for a website. You may create a pedigree for yourself or an animal. There are free online pedigree generators you can use.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Family tree information for you or your pet
  1. Step 1

Conduct an online search for "HTML pedigree generators" or "free pedigree creator." You'll find listings based on your request, one of which is SitStay.com

  2. Step 2

Go directly to http://www.sitstay.com/pedi/ to use the generator.

  3. Step 3

Read through the directions before you begin. The generator does not work with AOL (version 4.x or lower), and your pet's pedigree will not be stored on SitStay's web server.

  4. Step 4

Enter your name, email address, pet's name, the type of pet you have (e.g., dog, cat, horse), and breed, color or variety under Step 1. You may sign up for a newsletter subscription (optional) if you'd like to learn of upgrades to the pedigree generator.

  5. Step 5

Select options for how you'd like the HTML pedigree to look in Step 2. Include the text size (very small, small, medium or large), background color and text color. Also, add the names used to refer to males and females in the pedigree.

  6. Step 6

Include what you want to use your HTML pedigree for in Step 3. To check the actual pedigree from within the website, pick Option 1.

  7. Step 7

Choose Option 2 if you'd like to see the actual HTML code. Your code will be displayed in a second window. You can copy and cut the code and then paste it into your web page using a website editor or web builder.

  8. Step 8

Select Option 3 to "Email the pedigree to yourself" or Option 4 to "Email the pedigree to your friends."

  9. Step 9

Click on the "Quick link to 'Go' button" to jump ahead. You will leap to the next step in the process based on your selection. To proceed step-by-step, continue as follows.

  10. Step 10

Enter the pedigree information in Step 4. Leave out any fields you don't want to display in the pedigree chart.

  11. Step 11

Insert any other information you'd like to display on the HTML pedigree for your website under Step 5.

  12. Step 12

Click on the "Click here once and then wait for the results" button in Step 6 to create the HTML pedigree for your website.

  13. Step 13

Complete Step 7 if you'd like to send the completed pedigree to friends. You'll need to add your friends' email addresses in the text fields.

  14. Step 14

Add a note for your friends if you'd like and click on the button to complete Step 7. Congratulations--you've just created an HTML pedigree for your web page.
