How to Make Homemade Jewelry

Making your own jewelry has a lot of benefits. You can be creative and express yourself in making handcrafted jewelry that reflects your personality. You can also create your own line of jewelry to sell at garage sales or fundraisers. You can make homemade necklaces, earrings and much more with a few tools and the right supplies.

Things You'll Need

• Pair of ear wires
• Beads
• Head pins
• Flat-nosed pliers
• Round pliers
• Wire cutters
• String
• Clasps

Instructions

Earrings

1. Pick out the color of the beads you want to use for your earrings. Slide the bead onto one of the head pins.

2. Use your flat-nosed pliers to bend the head pin at a 45-degree angle. This keeps the bead securely in place so it doesn't come off the pin.

3. Clasp your round-nose pliers around the bend you just made in the head pin. Bend this section into a loop.

4. Trim off any extra wire you may have on the head pin. Take a piece of ear wire and slide it through the loop of the head pin and close it. Repeat the process for the next earring.

Beaded Necklace

1. Decide how you want to bead your necklace. Do you want the necklace with different- or same-color beads? Also, decide what color the string for your necklace should be.

2. Have someone measure your neck so that you know how much string you will need. Cut the correct length from a ball of string.

3. Slide the beads on to the string. Every so often while you're putting on the beads, tie a knot in the string to keep the beads from coming off the necklace.

4. Tie a clasp on one end of your necklace and the hook piece on the other end of the necklace.
