If you will be taking your musical keyboard anywhere to jam, you will need a carrying case for it. You can make a carrying case from scratch using items you likely already have around the house. The case will be durable enough to hold the weight of your keyboard and its accessories.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a thick fabric such as denim or canvas. A standard, full-size keyboard is about 38 inches long by 17 inches wide. It is also about 5 inches thick. In order for it to fit into a case the case must be slightly larger. The case needs to fit not only the length and width of the key board, but also the thickness of it. Add 10 inches to the length, and 5 inches to the width measurement. For a standard, full-size keyboard, cut two pieces of fabric that are 48 inches long by 22 inches wide.

    • 2

Place the two pieces of fabric together, print sides in. Lay the fabric in front of you lengthwise. Fold up the bottom edge half an inch. Use common pins to secure. Common pins are small, round-headed pins that are used to hold a hem or seam in place until it has been sewn by the sewing machine. Fold the left side in 1/2 inch, and again use pins to secure. Do the same for the right side.

    • 3

Stitch the bottom two or three times to ensure that it is strong and will be durable. Nylon thread works well. Remove the pins from the bottom once it's been sewn up with the machine. Stitch the left side in the same manner. Remove the pins and sew the right side. Remove the pins and turn the bag right side out.

Hold the bag so that the open side is up. The bag should be lengthwise. Fold that edge of the fabric of each side down, towards the inside of the bag, and pin using common pins. Use the sewing machine to sew each side, seperately. Do not sew the sides together. Remove pins. Pin the zipper in. Sew, stitching twice for added strength. Remove pins. You now have a bag that is keyboard-sized that can be opened and closed.

    • 5

Lay the bag in front of you lengthwise, zipper at the top. Fold one end of the nylon strap over 1/2 inch. Find the end of the zipper on the left of the bag. There will be a seam beneath it. The zipper runs horizontally across the top of the bag, and the seam runs vertically down the left side of the bag. Pinch that seam and the strap, placed vertically along the seam, together. Sew together using the machine, at least twice. Run the other end of the strap down to the bottom right-hand corner of the bag. It will run diagonally, top left to bottom right. Attach the right end of the strap the same way you did the left. Fold it under 1/2 inch and place it along the seam vertically. Stitch it into the seam.
