How to Fix a Wobbly Floor Lamp

Floor lamps make a quick and easy solution for a room that has less than ideal lighting. They can be placed anywhere in a room, as long as the cord can be plugged in. Of course, one of the downsides is that after moving the lamp around for awhile, it can get wobbly. Repairs are, in most cases, fairly quick and very easy. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your lamp and move it to a place where you can work on it.

    • 2

Remove the light bulb once the lamp has cooled down. This is to avoid breaking the bulb while working on the floor lamp.

    • 3

Lay the lamp down on its side and look at the underside of the base. If the base is covered with felt, carefully peel the felt off.

    • 4

Look at the center of the underside of the base where the cord comes out. The cord comes from the center of the post. The post is usually attached to the underside of the base with a bolt screwed onto the threaded end of the post.

    • 5

Tighten the bolt using the adjustable wrench. Do not tighten too much as this can damage the threads of the post. If the threads are mildly stripped or worn, wrapping plumber's tape around the threads can help tighten the bolt.

    • 6

Return the felt, stand the lamp up, put the light bulb back in place and plug it in. If the lamp is still wobbly, check to make sure it isn't on uneven flooring. This can be easily corrected by adding some felt to one side of the base to balance it.
