Pipe benders are handy tools when crafting parts from metal tubing. They are relatively simple in design. And, they can be crafted with a few simple pieces of material and hardware.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hydraulic jack
  • Pipe benders
  • 1/2" thick or greater steel plate
  • Miscellaneous nuts and bolts
  1. Step 1

Sketch the design wanted and needed for a pipe bender. It's also a good idea to look at existing models for design cues. There are several models available for different sizes of pipe, so be sure to plan the design accordingly.

  2. Step 2

Determine the dimensions of the pipe bender. Transfer those dimensions to the steel plate. Cut steel plate for the base and the mounts for the hydraulic jack and the pipe bender mounts.

  3. Step 3

Weld together steel plate pieces. Protect the structure with paint to avoid rusting.

  4. Step 4

Mount hydraulic jack to base of pipe bender. Be sure to tighten all bolts and nuts securely to keep the jack and pipe benders in place. Mount appropriate size pipe benders to hydraulic jack and to opposite end.
