How to Watch an AVI Movie on a DVD Player
AVI movie files are a popular format for storing movies on your computers hard drive. AVIs have excellent quality and take up relatively little hard drive space. However, if you wish to view your AVI movies on your TV, you will need to first burn them to DVD for playback using a DVD player.

Download and install any DVD authoring program, such as Nero, Roxio or Sonic Solutions (see Resources).

Open your DVD authoring program. If you are using Nero, select the "DVD" option from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen. Next, select "Create A New DVD" from the main menu screen.

Select "Add Video Files" and then select the .avi movie file that you would like to burn to DVD and click the "Next" button.

Insert a blank DVD-R into the DVD burner of the computer.

Back in your DVD authoring program---Nero, in this example---select "Burn To" and select the DVD burner from the drop down menu. Then click the "Burn" button.

The DVD burner will automatically eject the disc after the .avi movie has been successfully burned to DVD-R. The .avi movie is now ready to play on your DVD player.
Convert AVI to MPEG Format

Know that virtually all DVD players will play .avi files, however if you have an older DVD player (pre-2000), you may need to convert the .avi file to .mpeg format before burning to DVD.

Download and install the .avi to mpeg conversion plug-in from the "plug-ins/tools" section of the website for your particular DVD authoring program. This plug-in enables the file conversion feature within your DVD authoring tool.

Next, open your DVD authoring program and select the .avi file that you wish to convert to .mpeg format.

Right-click on the .avi file, and from the options that appear, choose "convert to .mpeg." This will create an exact copy of the .avi movie in the .mpeg format required for your DVD player.

Select "Create A New DVD" from the main menu screen of your DVD authoring program---Nero, in this example.

Select "Add Video Files" and then select the .mpeg movie file that you just created and click the "Next" button.
