How to Make a Dance Party Invitation

Designing and creating dance party invitations is the first step to hosting a successful dance party. Dance party invitations set the mood for the party, informing guests about the party's theme and proper attire. Dance party invitations and party decorations follow the same theme and should be coordinated. Keep this in mind when creating your dance party invitations. So dig out your arts and crafts supplies and create a memorable invitation that will have guests talking about your dance party.

Instructions

1. Determine important information and brainstorm. Choose a date, location and time for the dance party. Consider making a map for the invitations if the location is unfamiliar to guests. Brainstorm and jot down ideas for a theme, colors or invitation designs. Check the Internet and magazines for ideas. Think about making invitations in a unique design such as a disco ball or CD. Use your imagination and creativity.

2. Write a catchy phrase. Start your dance party invitation with a catchy phrase or poem to grab guest's attention. Try something like, "Grab your partner and kick up your heels at Bob's dance party." Use the party's theme for a catchy phrase such as, "Dust off your bell bottoms for a party that jives and let the good times roll."

3. Purchase supplies. Check your arts and crafts bin for supplies. Create a list of needed materials and go to the local craft store. Things to purchase can include: card stock, stickers, stamps, glitter, embellishments, stencils or ribbon. Pick up items matching the theme or colors of the dance party invitation.

4. Design the dance party invitations. Create the dance party invitation on the computer using a word document. Change the paper height and width under page setup to meet your invitation needs. Remember if you're cutting the card stock into a specific design, allow enough space for the words fit on the design. For a half sheet of card stock, center the information and allow extra space at the top and bottom for a border. Print a test copy. Check for text and margin alignment. Proofread the dance party invitation and print remaining dance party invitations on the card stock.

5. Attach ribbon or border. Use a shiny ribbon to match the theme, or use a ribbon with a dance theme such as musical notes or a disco ball. Measure the length of the card stock and cut one piece of ribbon. Use this piece as a guide to cut other ribbons. Attach the ribbon to the card stock using a few drops of craft glue. Smooth any wrinkles. Consider using a stencil design featuring dance shoes, musical notes or instruments to create a top border on the dance party invitation. Hold the stencil in place so it doesn't move, and color in the designs is a silver or gold marker.

6. Add embellishments. Decorative gems, glitter and jewels make perfect embellishments for dance party invitations. Use these to highlight the words. Create small swirls with glue and cover with glitter. Glue three small gems or jewels next to a short line of text. Try using stickers or stamps with disco balls or music notes. Experiment with one invitation and determine what embellishments to use. Let invitations dry completely before putting in envelopes.

• For multiple invitations, complete each step before moving on to the next step. Completing one step is faster than switching between steps.
