A synthetic two-strand hair twist is a very simple hair style. Adding synthetic hair makes the hair twists thicker, longer or both. The hair can be twisted and styled in many different ways. The hair is parted and braided about half an inch from the scalp to connect the synthetic hair, then twisted completely to the end. The twists can be a range of many different sizes. Each person's style can be customized to fit individual preference. After enjoying these twists for weeks, taking them out can be done in a few easy steps.

Things You'll Need:

  • Conditioner
  • Shampoo
  • Hair moisturizer
  1. Step 1

Use a ponytail holder to hold all of your hair while leaving only a small section of the hair in the back out. This section of hair should be about one to two inches thick and extend from one side of the neck to the other side.

  2. Step 2

Apply some moisturizer to the loose section of the hair before starting to untwist. This will make the hair easier to take apart, and it allows the synthetic hair extensions to slide out more easily. The twists that are closest to the nape of the neck are the ones you will work with first. This way, you can better manage the hair with no other hair in the way.

  3. Step 3

You will begin by taking one of the twists, dividing it by its two strands, then untwisting it from its end. Remember to unravel the small braid after untwisting each individual twist. Sometimes the braid comes apart on its own. You will untwist in a counterclockwise motion, because most twists are twisted in a clockwise motion. If you find that the twists were twisted counterclockwise, then use the opposite motion (clockwise) to untwist the strands of hair. Be sure to remove the synthetic hair extensions when untwisting.

  4. Step 4

Untwist each twist until you have completed that entire section. Sometimes, this may require a little bit of a pull, because they may be entangled within the hair. Be sure not to pull if the hair isn't completely untwisted or if the small braid close to the scalp still remains. If you find that the extension is very hard to remove, skip it and continue with the next hair twist. It will come out when you wash the hair, so don't worry.

  5. Step 5

Continue with the next twist and repeat the same process. Once you've done all of the lower back section, take the ponytail holder out. Pull out another section above the last section completed. Make sure you pull out a small section going from ear to ear as you did before. Then, place the ponytail holder back on the hair. Repeat this process until all twists are removed.

  6. Step 6

Shampoo your hair and carefully take out any remaining hair extensions. The extensions will most likely fall out when the water is applied to the hair. Dry out any excess water with a towel and apply conditioner to the hair. Place a plastic cap on your hair for 30 to 45 minutes. You can keep it on longer if you desire. This helps to place the moisture back into the hair, and helps to detangle the hair. Blow dry and style your hair as desired.
