Instructions

    • 1

Fill the tin can 1/3 full with sand. Blow up the balloon and set the tied end into the top of the tin can. Use masking tape to secure the balloon to the can.

    • 2

Mix 1 part water with 1 part flour. Tear your newspaper into 2-inch-by-6-inch strips. Dip the strips into the flour mixture and cover the balloon and can completely. Allow to dry and add a second coat of newspaper strips. Repeat until you have coated the mannequin head 4 times.

    • 3

Once the paper mache has dried, you can add any features you desire to the mannequin head. Wad up small pieces of newspaper for the nose, lips and ears and attach them with a strip of masking tape. Press and pinch the newspaper into shape. Cover the features with a single strip of newspaper dipped in the flour mixture and allow to dry.

    • 4

Paint the mannequin head or cover it with fabric and glue in place. Display your items on it once the paint or glue is dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Attach a base to your mannequin head or hang it from the ceiling with string. Cover the head quickly by sliding a nylon sock over the top.
