How to Decorate Glass Ornaments
Glass ornaments are a long-time favorite, even though they are fragile. They catch the light at every angle and give your tree extra sparkle. They also can be decorated for other holidays and hung in windows, doorways and from the ceiling. Decorating them can be fun for all ages, from the artistic types to someone who needs a stencil. Even little kids can decorate glass ornaments. You also can get clear glass eggs and flat glass circles or disks, diamonds, ovals or hearts to decorate and hang anywhere--even from your neck. Things You'll Need
- Clear glass ball ornaments or other shapes
- Acrylic paints
- Paintbrushes
- Small funnel
- Newspapers, a plastic trash bag or plastic tablecloth
- Damp cloths
- Glitter in various colors
- Beads in different colors
- Herbs
- Potpourri
- Easter grass
- Sand in different colors

Pull the top from the glass ball or egg and set it aside so it doesn't get lost.

Pour a light color of paint into the ball via a small funnel. Swirl the paint around inside the ball. Make sure the paint doesn't cover the entire inside of the ball.

Pour another paint color into the ball and swirl it around. The paint will mix a little with the other color but will also cover the blank spaces inside the ball if you swirl it so it reaches those spots. Metallic colors work well for this.

Set the ball carefully aside on a protective table covering to air-dry.

Replace the top of the ornament and embellish with a ribbon for hanging.

Coat the inside of another ball with white paint, making certain the entire inside of the ball is covered (or buy a white glass ball). Paint a snowman face on the outside of the ball--black eyes, a carrot nose and a mouth. Add a hat and a scarf to finish.

Trace or draw a pattern on the exterior of an unpainted clear glass ball, such as holly or poinsettias. Paint the design, allowing each color in the pattern to dry thoroughly before applying the next color.

Trace or draw a pattern on one side of a clear glass disk. Paint on the design, and allow to dry thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings
Fill a clear glass ball with glitter in your favorite color, tiny colored beads, iridescent Easter grass (perfect for an Easter centerpiece of egg shaped ornaments), tiny pine boughs, herbs, potpourri, or even layers of colored sand. Fill some with tiny hearts to use as Valentine's Day decorations or with red, white and blue confetti for the Fourth of July.
Flat, heart-shaped ornaments make lovely Valentine's Day decorations, and they make great gifts for little girls to wear as necklaces.
