How to Make a Cookbook Using MS Word

Cookbooks serve many purposes. Perhaps the most common is to create a useful collection of favorite recipes. However, they can be used in other ways as well. Classes and organizations often sell cookbooks as fundraising items. Family members would likely appreciate a compilation of Grandma's, Mom's and Aunt Martha's best recipes, as well. Creating a cookbook to give as gifts that may become cherished heirlooms is as easy as using Microsoft Word and a printer.

Instructions

    • 1

Start MS Word. Click "New" in the "File" menu of Word 2003 or earlier, or from the "Office Button" in Word 2007. In the "Search Microsoft Online" box, type "cookbook" and click "Go."

    • 2

Click on "Cookbook" in the resulting list and then click the "Download" button. The cookbook template will open as a new document in Word.

    • 3

Select the text box on the first page of the document. Replace the word "Recipes" with the personalized title of the cookbook.

    • 4

Enter chapter titles and page numbers on page 2. On page 3, type an introduction for the cookbook. Type recipes into the remaining pages. Create an index using the last page of the template, if desired.

    • 5

Print the first page of the cookbook by itself by pressing "Ctrl+P" and clicking the "Pages" button in the "Page Range" section. Enter the number "1" in the "Pages" box. Print the remaining pages double-sided following your printer's specific instructions. Punch holes in the border of each page, and put the cookbook pages in order in a three-ring binder.

Tips & Warnings

  • Personalize a family cookbook by inserting pages of photos of your family and some of the dishes mentioned.
