How to Make Your Homemade Speaker Box Sound the Best
Creating a speaker box isn't difficult; making it sound the best is more of a challenge. The secret to having the highest-quality sound lies partly in the way it's constructed and partly in the material used.

1
Using an online calculator or design software, plug in the manufacturer's specs to create the dimensions for your box. Print or write down the sizes you need.
-
2
Cut the fiberglass sheeting to exactly what the software requires. For precision sound, you must be precise about your measurements.
-
-
3
Fit all of the sides together except the face, using an all-purpose glue. Any high-quality glue or epoxy found in a hardware store that works on fiberglass is good.
-
4
Lay the silicone caulk down along all of the inside seams. Use your finger or a small foam brush to remove any air bubbles, which will degrade your sound quality.
-
5
Cut a layer of fiberglass insulation to fit in the bottom of the box and lay it down inside. This will help improve the response of your speaker.
-
6
Measure the speakers and draw holes in pencil on the face of the box.
-
7
Cut holes on the face of the box. Glue the face onto the box and let it dry overnight.
-
8
Drill small holes in the back of the speaker box for the wiring. Run the speaker wire through the holes and caulk them to avoid any air leaks.
-
9
Attach the speakers to the face of the box. Make sure you caulk the speakers to avoid any air leakage. Skipping this step will greatly affect your sound quality.

Tips & Warnings
Go over everything carefully to make sure you have no air bubbles or leak. This is the biggest mistake people make. Make sure when you run the wiring that it's long enough to go from your box to your amp. Bolting the box to your car and using Dynomat will further improve the quality of the sound, as will using one amp just for your subwoofers.
