Crochet in the round to create yarn flowers.

Crocheters know that crochet has several advantages over knitting. One is the speed with which crochet projects work at, due to the taller stitches. Another is the thickness of the fabric created by crochet, an advantage for those who live in cold climates. But perhaps the biggest advantage crochet has over knitting is the ease with which you can crochet circles, using a technique known as crocheting in the round. You don't need a pattern to begin crocheting circles; you only need to know how to work chain, slip and single crochet stitches.

Instructions

    • 1

Chain four stitches. Join the chain with a slip stitch to connect the first link to the last and make a ring.

    • 2

Insert your hook into the center of the ring from the front, holding your working yarn behind the ring.

    • 3

Wrap the hook from right to left behind the ring and pull the wrap through the ring. Your working yarn will now run through the center of the ring, and your wrapped hook will be in front.

    • 4

Wrap the hook again and pull the wrap through the two loops on the hook to form your first single crochet stitch.

    • 5

Work as many stitches as you want into the center of the ring. Join the first and last stitches with a slip stitch and chain as many stitches as you need to begin the second round.

    • 6

Crochet into the stitches going around the ring just as you would when crocheting in a straight line. Make increases by working more than one stitch into each stitch of the previous row. Join every round with a slip stitch.
