If you are familiar with Microsoft PowerPoint, you know that this presentation application is ideal for creating professional slideshows. You can also use PowerPoint to make high-quality publications for print. For example, Microsoft offers free PowerPoint templates to help you make everything from flyers to award certificates. You do not need to use a template, though. You can format and design a slide or two and create a unique, printable brochure.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint (any version from 2000 to 2007)
  1. Step 1

Open a new, blank PowerPoint presentation. Select a slide design or theme. In PowerPoint 2007, go to the "Design" tab and select a theme. In PowerPoint 2003 or earlier, go to the "Format" menu and click on "Slide Design." Choose a background that fits your business--one that is not too dark, bright or busy for your text to show.

  2. Step 2

Delete any placeholders on the slide, such as text boxes, by clicking on them to select them and pressing "Delete." Insert a table onto the page. In PowerPoint 2007, go to the "Insert" tab and click the "Tables" dropdown arrow. In PowerPoint 2003 or earlier, go to the "Insert" menu and click "Table." Insert a table with three columns and one row.

  3. Step 3

Drag the table to fit the entire slide. Enter text into the tables, and graphics such as your company logo. The third column of the table will be the cover of the brochure. The middle column will be the back of the brochure. The first column will be the inside right flap of the brochure.

  4. Step 4

Insert a second slide. This slide will be the inside of the tri-fold brochure. To insert a new slide in PowerPoint 2007, click "New Slide" from the "Home" tab. In PowerPoint 2003 or earlier, go to the "Insert" menu and click "New Slide." The second slide will share the same theme as the first but likely will be a bit different, adding interest and professionalism to the brochure.

  5. Step 5

Delete any placeholders from the slide. Place a table with one row and three columns on the second slide. Drag it to the size of the slide and enter text and graphics.

  6. Step 6

Save your completed brochure. To print it, click the "Office" button in PowerPoint 2007 or the "File" menu in PowerPoint 2003, and select "Print." In "Print Range," select "Slides" and type in the number 1. Click "OK." The first slide will print. Turn the paper over and put it back into the printer, then print the opposite side of the brochure. Fold along the lines and enjoy.
