Recipe for Fragrance Lamp Oil

Save

Fragrant oil lamps can be beautiful. They add a cozy touch to any room and also emit a pleasing scent at the same time. Unfortunately, buying fragrant oil can get expensive. Luckily, it is possible to make your own fragrant lamp oil, although you must be careful when making it due to it's highly flammable content. Fragrance lamp oil is cheap and easy to make, and can be made quickly.

Things You'll Need

  • 16-oz. bottle of 91 to 99 percent isopropyl alcohol
  • 1/8 oz. distilled water
  • 1/4 oz of essential oil
  • Measuring cup
  • Quart-size jar
  • Labels
  • Permanent markers
  • Set up in a safe area. Because isopropyl alcohol is highly flammable, make sure you are in a well-drafted area, preferably outside, with no children or pets around. Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby.

  • Open the bottle of alcohol. Carefully pour the distilled water and alcohol into a quart-size jar. Pour the essential oil into the jar. Place the lid on the jar and shake to combine the ingredients.

  • Mark adhesive labels to create a name for your fragrant oil. Attach the label to the front of your jar and store in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children.

  • Repeat this process for as many jars as you wish to make. Take special care not to spill any of the alcohol or drip it onto any surfaces. It is best to make several jars at one sitting, so that you don't have to go to all the trouble and danger frequently.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use pretty bottles to store your oil, but be careful not to spill the alcohol when transferring it into the pretty bottle.
  • This recipe is alcohol based, as are all fragrance lamp fuels oils. Therefore, it should only be used in catalytic fragrance lamps. Never use fragrance lamp fuel oils in regular oil burning lamps or reed diffusers.
