You will need a base to begin your design. A sturdy card stock is much easier to work with and can be picked up at your local office supply or craft store. You can find many colors, even sparkly or metallic, but often a simple white base works best.

Collect pictures out of magazines, old Christmas cards, scraps of string or ribbon, and old wrapping paper. You can use these to make great designs and pictures. A great way to use the wrapping paper is to find a picture of a Christmas tree or presents to cut out and use. Another great idea is to use your child's upside down hand print. It can be used to look like Santa's beard, and you can add the hat and maybe some googley eyes. Children generally love to help.

Try to use double-sided tape instead of glue to make your designs. It works well and does not need time to dry.

Attach your craft creations to the card base. It does not need to be perfect and you can easily overdo it. Try to keep it simple.

Consider printing out your message on red or green paper with a fancy font and then affixing this to the inside of your card with double-sided tape. Be sure to sign the card yourself, however, to give it a personal touch.

When looking for an envelope, you can often find card envelopes at a reasonable price at your supply stores. There are also websites available to print your address on a sheet of paper that also show you where to fold to create the envelope. There is one link provided below in the Resources section for this purpose. Simply fold, seal, and drop in the mail or attach the card to a present.

Another way to make some great Christmas cards is to go online. There are several sites that will walk you through the entire card creating process. You can even upload your own photos and pick from thousands of clip art files. These print out on your home computer and are simply folded where indicated. This is a great idea if you want to send the same card to several people.
