Instructions

    • 1

Consider what type of bang will look best on you. Look through magazines and get a feel for what you want and what will flatter your facial features. Do you want bangs that are swept off to the side or long bangs that reach your eye-brows? It's entirely up to you.

Wash, dry and straighten your hair. Before cutting your hair or trying out a new style, it's always best to wash it beforehand. For creating bangs, you must have dry hair, so be sure to use a blow dryer on it before starting. If you have a certain amount of curl or wave to your hair, straighten it before getting started with your bangs.

    • 3

Part off a triangle. At the center point of your head, form a triangle with your comb. The point of the triangle should be about an inch or two from the hairline.

    • 4

Pull the rest of the hair away from your face. Once you have established a triangle in your hair, pull the excess hair away from your face. If possible, tie or clip the hair behind you so it won't interfere with the hair you want to cut.

    • 5

Cut upwards, not horizontally. Using your shears, cut the bangs to the desired length, making sure you are holding the shears at a vertical angle, not a horizontal angle. Never cut your bangs straight across. Cut section by section until you reach your desired length.

Tips & Warnings

  • After creating a triangle part, the hair left hanging down should only stretch from one eye to the other. The section of hair you want to cut to create bangs should never stretch from ear to ear. Having the bangs stretch from ear to ear will leave you with an entirely undesirable look. Anything past the section that stretches from eye to eye can be left in longer layers to frame your face.
