Bubble wrap rubbing is an outside activity to be done with preschool children on a hot day. All you need is a picnic table, bubble wrap and a hose. The kinesthetic experience is just plain fun and it is a great sensory activity.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Picnic table
  • Large roll of bubble wrap
  • Packing tape
  • Hose
  1. Step 1

Tape a roll of bubble wrap to the top of your picnic table so that all of the surface is covered. Tuck several inches of bubble wrap under the table and pull the tape across the under side of the table so that when it gets wet it won't wiggle off.

  2. Step 2

Arrange the children on the benches around the picnic table. Talk about what bubble wrap looks like, how it feels, how it sounds when you touch it, why it pops and what it is made of. Ask them to predict what will change when the bubble wrap gets wet.

  3. Step 3

Turn on the hose. Wet the bubble wrap. Turn off the hose after the spaces between the bubbles has filled up with puddles. Tell the children to have fun feeling the table now.

  4. Step 4

Keep the table wet until all the bubbles have been popped. Then spray the children with the hose.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not leave children unattended with bubble wrap. Remember that this is made of plastic. Do not allow anyone to cover their faces or heads with the bubble wrap. Make sure that you throw out the used bubble wrap after the activity is finished to protect any local wildlife as well.
