How to Make a Sandbox
Who doesn’t enjoy the nostalgia that comes with watching children playing in a good old-fashioned sandbox? Well, you can continue that nostalgia by building your own box. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Untreated lumber, including all items below.
- Two pieces of 2-by-14-inch lumber cut in 4-foot lengths
- Two pieces of 2-by-14-inch lumber cut in 3-foot, 10 1/2-inch lengths
- Four pieces of 4-by-4-inch lumber cut in 11 1/4-inch lengths
- 15 50-pound bags of “playground” sand
- Tarp to cover the sandbox from the elements

Choose your ground. The ground should be level with plenty of grass surrounding the chosen areas.

Clean the chosen ground. Before you start to build, remove any and all rocks, tree roots and debris from the area.

Assemble the frame. Using the two pieces of 2-by-14 (4-foot lengths) as your front and the two pieces of 2-by-14( 3-foot 10 1/2-inch length) for the back and sides, build you basic square frame.

Brace the corner with a basic 5-by-5 inch block. This will act as a corner stone to reinforce the box.

Fill the box with sand. Once the box is filled, smooth the sand into the gaps, ensuring that the sand is evenly place within the box.

Tips & Warnings
Use a tarp to protect the sand from the elements.
All lumber used should be untreated lumber.
