Take the butter knife and try to lift the gum. You will want to pull up on each side of the gum gently. Be careful when pulling as you may ruin the fibers in the carpet. Ease the butter knife back and fourth until you get the majority of the gum is off of the carpet. If the gum is not coming up fairly easily or you are pulling to many fibers, stop.

Grab the small pair of scissors. You will want to gently cut the gum that has been successfully pulled up from the knife. Do not cut the carpet while you are removing the excess gum. Once that has been completed, you will still have a small spot on the carpet.

Use the WD-40 on the remaining gum. Soak the spot with the WD-40 and let sit for three to five minutes. Once it has been soaked, take your soft cloth and grab the remaining gum. If there is still some sticky residue, apply more WD-40 and soak again. The remaining gum should be completely removed.

Take the carpet cleaner and spray the area. Even though the gum has been removed completely, sticky residue may still remain. Spray the area with your carpet safe cleaner. Let that sit for about five minutes. Then take your damp cloth and blot the area. After that has been done, take your dry cloth and blot the excess cleaner and water from the carpet. Let it dry.

Tips & Warnings
Remember, you do not want to pull up the fibers from your carpet. If they are starting to come up, stop pulling with the knife.
Always test the carpet cleaner in an area that cannot be viewed. Some may damage the carpet if it is not made for your specific type.
