Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yarn
  • Knitting needles (any size, up to about US 7)
  • Stitch markers
  • Pattern
  1. Step 1

Assess your knitting ability. Do you think that you're a beginner? Or have you successfully knitted a few projects and feel comfortable with patterns and knitting abbreviations? If you don't want to be frustrated, don't pick a pattern that is far above your level of knitting.

  2. Step 2

Choose a pattern. Many different patterns can be found on the Internet, or in various books that are found in both bookstores and craft stores. Usually, the pattern will tell you what yarn should be used to achieve the desired look, as well as any other items you may need to complete your flowers. It should also tell you what size needles to use while knitting.

  3. Step 3

Purchase your supplies. If you are working from a pattern and you want to replicate it exactly, you may need to find the same brand of yarn in the same color as the pattern uses. This can be difficult, especially for specialty yarns. Make use of the many different yarn suppliers online to find the right yarn--or, if this isn't possible, try to find a close approximation.

  4. Step 4

Start knitting. Most flowers start with casting yarn on a needle-- if you have knitted before you probably have a preferred way of doing this step. Remember to read all of the pattern before starting, so that you will be assured you have everything you need for the flowers.

  5. Step 5

Finish your flowers. Knit flowers are usually easily finished in one sitting, but it may require that you sew them directly onto the finished product right away to keep its shape. Add any additions such as buttons or other elements to your flowers at this time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that if you end up with flowers you aren't pleased with, you can always "frog" the stitches (unravel the piece) and start again.
  • Don't feel as if you have to get it right the first time--most knitters make mistakes when trying a new technique.
