Newsletters are a great marketing tool if used effectively. They can tell your consumers about what's going on in your company and inform them about any products and services they may be interested in purchasing. Newsletters can also be used as an in-office communication tool by letting your employees know what's going on. Learn how to create a professional looking newsletter.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a template that best matches the feel of your company and the purpose of your newsletter. Generic templates can be modified or you can hire a designer to create a customized template for your company that you can reuse for every newsletter you publish.

  2. Step 2

Determine the content and the pictures. Figure out what you're going to put in your newsletter and where you want to place the pictures. Decide on the length of the articles, and make sure the content you provide is meaningful and not just space fillers.

  3. Step 3

Decide if you're going to have advertising and where you're going to place that advertising. Ads will ultimately influence the length of your newsletter. Create advertising rates.

  4. Step 4

Design a table of contents. Your readers are going to want to be able to see at a glance what's in your newsletter and what pages the information they're most interested in reading are on.

  5. Step 5

Make your newsletter visually easy to read with lots of white space and short paragraphs. Where appropriate, use bullet points. Pictures can also break up blocks of text. If you choose pictures, make sure they're of a proper resolution so that they print or display well.

  6. Step 6

Involve your target audience to encourage them to read the newsletter. Letters to the Editor are a good idea as are special pricing offers or coupons. You can also encourage reader participation through contests or surveys.

  7. Step 7

Spell check your content thoroughly before sending it out. Check for grammatical and layout problems as well. If you're looking to create a professional newsletter, then you need to make sure that text doesn't run into photos or that graphics are of poor quality.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can create a theme for each issue of your newsletter to organize your articles, and then also have recurring features that appear every newsletter (Advice, Editor's Letter).
