How to Rotate Images in Excel

You may find that you want to rotate an image in Microsoft Excel 2007 so you can get just the right look. Your options are turning the image to the right or left, or flip it vertically or horizontally.

      Start Microsoft Excel 2007 and open an existing workbook that contains an image that you would like to rotate.

      Select the image you want to rotate by clicking on it. Once the image is selected it will be surrounded by a thin, black border and white sizing handles.

      Choose the "Format" tab at the top of the Excel 2007 screen so the Format ribbon is displayed. Locate the "Arrange" section in the Format ribbon. The Arrange section is the second to the last section in the Format ribbon.

      Click the "Rotate" button from the Arrange section in the Format ribbon so you display a drop-down menu.

      Determine how you want to rotate the selected image and choose an option from the Rotate menu. You can choose to rotate it to the right 90 degrees, the left 90 degrees, flip vertical or flip horizontal. Once the option is chosen, the selected image will immediately rotate.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Format ribbon only displays after the image is selected in Microsoft Excel 2007.

  • You can set a specific degree of rotation by choosing "More Rotation Options" from the Rotate menu. This opens the "Size and Properties" dialog box.
