on 8/1/2006 My son used a sharpie permanent marker on our tan carpeting. I was sure the carpet was ruined. My mom suggested using club soda. To my amazement the carpet came clean.

Just pour club soda over the stain and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Then blot with a clean white cloth.

Club soda also works on black cherry soda stains as well.

on 11/22/2005 Fabric stain remover such as "Shout" works great for stain removal. It's lots cheaper than other carpet cleaners.

on 11/22/2005 For tough spots on a carpet or fabric, use hydrogen peroxide -
the same type you use for cuts.
Simply pour a little peroxide on the stain and use a scrub brush to work it in, allow to dry and vacuum.
