The internal and external healing qualities of wheatgrass are gaining recognition more each day. While wheatgrass is most commonly available bottled or fresh from juice bars, those who prefer to cut costs and enjoy the benefits of wheatgrass each and every day may prefer to juice their grass at home.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Wheatgrass juicer
  • Wheatgrass plants
  • Scissors
  • Small bowl
Step1
Purchase a wheatgrass juicer, available in both electric and hand crank forms. Blenders and standard juicers will not work to make wheatgrass juice, as the high speeds oxidize and destroy the healing properties of the wheatgrass. Hand crank juicers are by easier to use and clean and are very cost effective.
Step2
Harvest your wheatgrass only when you are ready to make juice. Hold the blades firmly in your hand, and cut the grass with scissors as near to the soil as possible. Cut a little at a time, cutting and juicing more if necessary. With practice, you will learn how much to cut to yield an ounce or two of juice.
Step3
Place a bowl below the spout of your juicer and slowly feed the blades of wheatgrass into the hopper of your machine. Either crank or turn on the juicer and continue feeding grass into the machine until you have juiced one or two ounces. The juice will be very dark green and will most likely have a layer of foam on top. If desired, you can run the wheatgrass pulp through your juicer one more time.
Step4
Drink your fresh wheatgrass juice within 30 minutes of harvesting, as exposure to the air quickly breaks down the vitamins and minerals found in the juice.

Tips & Warnings

  • After the first cut of wheatgrass, the blades can be left to go once more. After the second harvest, replant to ensure nutrient-rich wheatgrass with every juicing.
